A Love Letter to My Bark

Yesterday's prompt was "explain a tree from the point of view of its leaves". I didn't get a chance to put it down on here so here it is today. I'll do the other prompt next.

A Love Letter to My Bark

She is beautiful. I can't say I've been here forever as I come with the seasons and miss her strength in the winter but she stands tall. Once, the others whisper, she was a single stem reaching from the Earth. Now she is one of the glorious. She persists through rain where I have to turn my back. She clings to the sunlight and helps us get warm in its grasp.

Her bark is the most beautiful thing I've ever seen.

In it is the carvings of time. Rivers of memories and ridges of survival. It is her defining feature. A dark brown with specs of green, she is a host to many things. Birds nest near me and their songs are an ode to her spine. Ants crawl and eat from us, never taking more than their share. They too, adore her. She is all there is and she keeps us breathing. We store nutrients for her but still, it is not enough. She is majestic. When I fall with my brothers and sisters we will miss her but still, she will guard us at her feet until we give back to her once more. The cycle continues. But until then, I stare at the curves of her bark and bask in the glory.
