Writing prompt number one: Tell a houseplant why it should live. I decided to tackle this one thinking about my basil plant that lives on my porch. I'm notorious for killing plants so this will be a fun one.
Why Dorian Should Live
I confess, I'm not much for plants. I bring them into my home and then neglect them and they wither without my attention. I forget them in their quiet existence and only remember them when they're helpful to me. I am a selfish plant owner, I confess. But Dorian is wilting. His once beautiful, green, leaves are curling under and I don't want to watch another one go.
Dorian. You've helped me make water taste brighter. You've made me happy, even if I've forgotten sometimes. You deserve the brightness a life can give. You haven't even begun to bloom. There's so much more for you to see. There's more time. Don't wilt just because I'm a bad owner. I know I haven't loved you enough but the sun is still shining and your world shouldn't only rely on me. Think of the rain as it pours off the awning. Think of the sky. Don't let this defeat you.
You, Dorian, are a shining spot of nature on a wooden balcony. Keep growing, I beg of you. You have so much more to give and I can learn to give more, as well.
